6 Steps To Get Your Makeup Organized

Are you a bit overwhelmed by the amount of makeup you’ve accumulated? Or like me, do you find things you didn’t know you have?

Organizing your makeup can be a daunting task, especially if you have a large collection of products. But with a few simple tips and tricks, you can transform your cluttered vanity into a neat and tidy beauty station. Here are some effective ways to organize your makeup so you can find what you need.

1. Sort your makeup by category

The first step to organizing your makeup is to sort it by category. This may seem like an obvious step but it’s an important one to make it easier to find what you’re looking for and keep track of everything. Start by grouping similar items together, such as lipsticks, eyeshadows, foundations, and so on.

2. Get rid of expired products

Before you start organizing your makeup, go through your collection and toss any products that are expired or no longer usable. Makeup has a shelf life, and using expired products can lead to skin irritation or infections. As a general rule, liquid and cream products should be replaced every 6-12 months, while powder products can last up to 2 years.

3. Use storage containers

Once you’ve sorted your makeup by category, it’s time to start organizing it. One of the most effective ways to do this is by using storage containers. There are many different types of storage containers available, from clear acrylic drawers to fabric makeup bags. Choose the type that works best for you and your collection. I bought this acrylic organizer from Amazon and I love it.  It has 3 separate stackable pieces and loads of storage.  You  can find it on Amazon here.

4. Arrange products by frequency of use

When organizing your makeup, consider arranging your products by frequency of use. This means keeping the items you use most often within easy reach, while storing less frequently used items in a separate container or drawer. This will help you save time and streamline your beauty routine.

5. Label your containers

To make it even easier to find what you’re looking for, consider labeling your storage containers or drawers. This is super helpful if you have a lot of items or if you’re storing products in opaque containers. You can use adhesive labels, chalkboard labels, or even have fun with washi tape to label your containers.

6. Clean those makeup brushes

In addition to organizing your makeup products, it’s important to keep your tools clean and organized as well. If you use makeup brushes, you should clean them regularly to prevent bacteria buildup and extend their life.  I really like bamboo brushes because they are considered a naturally antibacterial material.  Bamboo products prevent the build-up of germs and fungi, so you can comfortably clean your brushes.  The brushes pictured below are ones that I purchased from Amazon. Here’s the link.

Once you’ve organized your makeup, you’ll really appreciate how much more efficient your beauty routine is.  By following these simple tips, you can create a streamlined beauty station that makes getting ready a breeze.
