Neon nails have been a popular trend for several years now, and it’s easy to see why. These bright, bold colors add a pop of excitement to any outfit and are perfect for summer or any time you want to make a statement with your nails.
What are Neon Nails?
Neon nails are any nail design / shade that incorporates bright, fluorescent colors. These colors are typically found in the neon color spectrum, including bright pinks, yellows, oranges, greens, and blues. Neon nail designs can be simple, like a single color on each nail, or more intricate, with patterns, shapes, and designs in multiple colors.
How to Achieve the Perfect Neon Manicure
Achieving the perfect neon manicure is easier than you might think. Here are the steps to follow to create the perfect neon nails:
1: Prep your nails. This includes filing, buffing, and pushing back cuticles.
2: Apply a base coat. This will help the neon polish adhere better and prevent staining of your natural nails.
3: Apply your neon polish. If using liquid polish, start with a thin layer and wait for it to dry completely before applying a second layer. Depending on the opacity of the polish, you may need to apply 2 or 3 coats. If you choose nail polish strips such as Color Street, apply the strips as you normally would. No second layer is necessary but can be applied for a richer color.
4: Add any desired designs or accents. You can use nail stickers, stamping plates, or freehand designs to create unique patterns or designs on your nails. You can also use a fun overlay like these from Color Street. Note that this overlay can be used over regular liquid polish or with Color Street nail polish strips. 5: Apply a top coat. This will seal in your design and help prevent chipping and peeling. Again, the top coat can be used over liquid polish or nail polish strips.
Tips for Maintaining Your Neon Nails
To keep your neon nails looking fresh and vibrant, here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Neon nails can fade with prolonged exposure to the sun. But it’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s sometimes fun to see the colors they will change into. However prolonged exposure of any part of your body to the sun is not recommended.
- Wear gloves when doing household chores or anything that may damage your nails.
- Avoid using acetone-based nail polish removers, as they can dull the neon color.
- Reapply a top coat every few days to extend the life of your manicure.
- Store your neon polishes in a cool, dark place to prevent them from drying out.
